The “½ YMCKOKO” (also written “Half YMCKOKO” or “1/2 YMCKO-KO”) is a ribbon design where the Yellow, Magenta, Cyan (Y/M/C) panels are half the length (shorter) than usual, while the K (black) and O (overlay) panels remain full length.

It’s used in situations where your card design only needs a partial color print area (for example, a color photo or logo on one portion of the card) but you still want to print black text or barcodes on one or both sides (using the black “K” panel). The overlay (O) protects prints on both sides.

Because the color panels are shorter, the ribbon uses less of the expensive color ink when only a portion of each card needs color. This lowers cost per card when full-color is not needed across the whole surface.

The datasheet shows that the color‐printable area (for Y/M/C) must not exceed about 35 mm in width on the card (and 54 mm in height for many applications) to fit within the color portion of the ribbon.
